Suitability of the penalties to the sins in the Inferno
The sinners are thrown different places based on the sin or sins they have committed. Each section is separated by type of sin or how evil the sin was. The punishments in Hell depend on the type of sin committed. If you committed a bad sin then your punishment will be worse.
Differences between upper and lower Hell
The upper level of Hell is for sinners who have done less serious sins. These sinners did not intend to hurt or betray others. A greedy or liar is a person that may be in upper Hell.
The lower level is for sinners who have committed many sins or more evil sins. A murderer or rapist is a person who may be in lower Hell.
Possible differences Dante's perspective and ours
Dante believes that people should not interfere with God. He believes that God has planned out all of our lives and we should not alter it. If a person does alter their own life then we should be sent to Hell. We believe that God is able to wash away our sins so we do not end up in Hell. We also do not believe in a purgatory. This is a place of many levels that allows a person to correct their sins. Dante believes that a sinner is a sinner and should not be forgiven unless they are strong enough to correct their sins through the purgatory.
